"Secret Images: Picasso and the Japanese Erotic Print"

This is a comparison of a cover from "Paris Illusré" a French magazine published in 1886 and a painting by Picasso inspired by the cover. I'm not sure if I am being a name snob but I love Picasso's interpretation of this figure. The framing interests me, I am wondering what his intention was for place this extravagantly adorned woman into a lily pond. Her color and angular lines take away from class and lead her more in the direction of a sinister being.
